A sports broadcaster provides commentary on the game, and analysis, to provide the viewers at home an inside look at the game. This is what the Westerner's Rahill Jaiswal does.
While majoring in Broadcast and Digital Journalism at Syracuse University, Jaiswal's broadcasting journey began long before college.
"I first got into broadcasting the summer before going into high school. I had the chance to attend a sports broadcasting camp. That was where I got my first experience, and from that point on, I wanted to try and pursue it." Jaiswal said.
When you start a potential career path when you're very young, it is very easy to want to pursue it as your future. "Having a career in anything sports broadcasting related, is my goal. I'm not sure of which sport or what position, but having a job in the industry is my end goal." Jaiswal said.
People have passions, but what makes sports broadcasting a personal passion for Jaiswal?
"I love being able to tell stories. You have the chance to paint the narrative of a game for the people watching. It's also so much fun. Being able to call a close game, or a highlight-worthy play, is the best. There is nothing more cool than being able to call a comeback, home run, or walkoff." Jaiswal said.
Everybody has a daily routine they do as a Westerner's volunteer, depending on the job, but what is Jaiswal's routine? What does game-day look like for Jaiswal?
"Before I get to the ballpark, I finish preparing each team's roster. I separate Google Doc with every team's roster and stats in the NECBL. I always try to make sure all the numbers are all updated before I arrive. Once I get to the ballpark, I meet the other team's broadcaster. I get to know them. I get the starting lineups, once I have the lineups, I start filing out my scorebook. Once that is done, the broadcast team makes sure my audio sounds ok, then we go live for the game." Jaiswal said.
Next time you're listening to the Westerners Game on the radio or during the game, know that it is the Westerner's very own Rahill Jaiswal broadcasting.
