Tape Measure Moments: Mowry’s Home Run Tear

Baseball has always been a game defined by records, whether it's Barry Bonds' home run mark or Cal Ripken Jr.'s consecutive games played streak. In today's game, however, technology has created a new category of achievements. Exit velocity, launch angle, and home run distance have become just as captivating as traditional statistics. For Danbury Westerners slugger Collin Mowry, those modern metrics have become his calling card as he leads the NECBL in home runs while launching some of the league's longest blasts.

Collin Mowry, the six-foot-tall junior from the University of Louisville, has emerged as one of the NECBL's most dangerous power hitters this summer. His combination of bat speed, strength, and consistent hard contact has fueled an impressive offensive campaign, making him a constant threat every time he steps into the batter's box. Entering this week, Mowry leads the NECBL in home runs while ranking among the league leaders in slugging percentage and extra-base hits. But it's not just how often he's leaving the yard; it's how far.

His biggest swing of the summer came when he launched a 436-foot home run, a tape-measure blast that showcased the raw power behind his breakout season. While the home run turned heads across the league, Mowry remains focused on continuing to improve rather than dwelling on the accomplishment.

“It feels good to be playing well and squaring the ball up well. Hopefully I can hit a farther one,” Mowry said.

Mowry isn’t only a power bat for the Westerners; he is one of their most productive hitters at the plate, with a .298 on-base percentage, and plays exceptional defense behind the dish, where he has thrown out nine runners attempting to steal. Despite the gaudy power numbers, Mowry saidhis individual statistics take a back seat to the team's success.

“I would love to keep hitting home runs and farther ones, but I am more focused on helping to win games”

Whether it's crushing towering home runs or helping guide the pitching staff behind the plate, Mowry continues to make an impact in every facet of the game.
